UK Study Visa

Understand the 70-point visa system, CAS letter requirements, and proof of funds needed to secure your UK Student Visa.

The 70-Point Visa System

The UK operates a point-based immigration system. To qualify for a Student Route visa (formerly Tier 4), you must score precisely 70 points:

  • 50 Points for CAS: You must have a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from a licensed UK higher education institution.
  • 10 Points for Financial Proof: You must prove you have enough money to support yourself and pay for your course (maintenance funds).
  • 10 Points for English Language: You must prove you can read, write, speak and understand English to a certain level (usually via IELTS UKVI or university assessment).

Financial Proof (The 28-Day Rule)

This is where most students fail. The strict financial rule states:

You must have enough money to pay for up to 9 months of your course tuition fees PLUS £1,334 per month (for courses in London) or £1,023 per month (for courses outside London).

CRITICAL: This money must have been held in your account continuously for at least 28 consecutive days before the date of your visa application.

Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS)

Before submitting your visa application, you are required to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge. This gives you access to the UK's National Health Service (NHS). It costs £776 per year of your visa duration (subject to change).

Credibility Interviews

While not mandatory for everyone, UKVI may invite you to a short video interview to assess if you are a "genuine student." The officer will ask questions about your course modules, why you chose that specific university, and how the course aligns with your career goals. We provide rigorous mock interviews to prepare you for this.
