What is the Student Direct Stream (SDS)?
The SDS is an expedited study permit processing program for Indian citizens. Applications submitted under the SDS category are usually processed within 20 calendar days. Our team highly recommends this pathway for stronger approval chances.
Mandatory SDS Requirements
To qualify for the SDS pathway, you must strictly meet the following criteria:
- Acceptance Letter: Must be from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada.
- Tuition Payment: Proof of payment for the full first year of tuition.
- Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC): A deposit of CAD $20,635 into a participating Canadian bank to cover your first year's living expenses.
- Language Test: An overall IELTS score of 6.0 (or equivalent in PTE Academic / CELPIP). *Latest IRCC rules apply.
- Upfront Medical Exam: Confirmation document of your upfront medical examination from an IRCC panel physician.
Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) Requirement
As of 2024, most undergraduate and college-level international students must provide a Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) from the province where they intend to study. Master's and PhD students are generally exempt. We assist you in coordinating with your university to obtain this letter.
Why Study Permits Get Refused
Even under SDS, visas can be denied if IRCC is not convinced of your intent. Common reasons include:
- The chosen study program does not logically align with your past education/work experience.
- The Statement of Purpose (SOP) fails to articulate a clear career plan upon returning to India.
- Failure to declare previous visa refusals (for Canada or any other country).
