BDS Course Details

BDS is a professional undergraduate program focused on dental science and oral healthcare. The curriculum blends academic learning, lab work, and hands-on clinical training. Students can specialize in various branches such as Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Computer, or Environmental Engineering. Key areas include oral pathology, dental anatomy, prosthodontics, periodontics, and orthodontics. Students are trained to diagnose and treat dental issues effectively using modern techniques. Upon graduation, candidates are qualified to practice dentistry or pursue post-graduate specializations.

Duration of BDS Course

The total duration of the BDS program is 5 years. This includes 4 years of academic education covering theory and clinical practice. Some institutions offer integrated Master’s programs that combine Bachelor’s and Master’s in a single curriculum. Followed by 1 year of mandatory rotatory internship in dental departments. The internship enhances practical skills under expert supervision. Completion of internship is necessary for registration as a licensed dental practitioner in India.


Eligibility for BDS

Candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English. A minimum of 50% marks in PCB subjects is required (40% for reserved categories). Qualifying NEET-UG is compulsory for admission to all BDS colleges in India. Applicants must be at least 17 years old on or before December 31 of the admission year. Both native and foreign students can apply through national or state counseling processes.

Admission Procedure of BDS

Step 1

NEET-UG Qualification

Candidates must appear and qualify the NEET-UG exam, which is mandatory for BDS admission in India.

Step 2

Counselling Registration

Based on NEET rank, students register for centralized counseling conducted by MCC (All
India Quota) or respective State authorities.

Step 3

Document Submission

Applicants are required to submit educational certificates, NEET scorecard, ID proof, and category documents for verification.

Step 4

College & Course Selection

Candidates select preferred dental colleges during the choice filling round; allotment is merit-based.

Step 5

Seat Allotment & Reporting

After allotment, students must report to the allotted college with original documents and complete admission formalities.

Step 6

Final Admission & Class Commencement

Once verified and fees are paid, final admission is granted, and the academic session begins.
